Alice Bessmer, 91, killed when friend accidentally runs her over in Maitland, Florida

It happened along Glastonberry Road in the Seminole County part of Maitland. The 91-year-old went to get something out of the back seat when the car began to roll backwards. That's when the Florida Highway Patrol said the 78-year-old accidentally pressed the gas and ran her over. She continued reversing until she hit a fence, officials said. "The mood is somber. They're dear friends, they've known each other for years. Very close. By all means, it was an accident. Especially this time of year, it's an unfortunate series of events that occurred," said Sgt. Mark Castleberry, with the Florida Highway Patrol.
