Halfway through the intersection, 16-year-old Grant M. Hester, of Lakeland, who was driving a blue Ford Ranger, drove into the intersection on a green light. He told deputies he observed another vehicle coming the opposite direction toward him stop; thinking the driver had yielded to him, he accelerated and struck the crossing guard while she was still in the crosswalk.
A 16-year-old driver hit a crossing guard in Lakeland, Florida early Wednesday morning, October 15 while she was in the crosswalk. The woman was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The incident is under investigation.
