Accident on Illinois Route 140 claims one life (update)

The driver of the 2011 Ford was pronounced dead at the scene by an investigator from the Madison County Coroner's office and was identified as Lori A. Vinyard, age 51, of Hamel, according to the state police.

A multi-vehicle accident on Illinois 140 Thursday resulted in one fatality and three people being transported to a hospital.

According to Holiday Shores Fire Chief Steve Cooper, the Holiday Shores Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at approximately 10:30 a.m.

"The motor vehicle accident was reported to have a semi-truck overturned. Upon our arrival we found a semi-truck overturned and two other vehicles involved," Cooper said.

Three individuals were injured and two had to be transported by ambulance to Alton Memorial Hospital.

Four vehicles were involved: a 2007 dump truck, a 2006 Mack (tanker truck), a 2011 Ford SUV and a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero.

The driver of the 2011 Ford was pronounced dead at the scene by an investigator from the Madison County Coroner's office and was identified as Lori A. Vinyard, age 51, of Hamel, according to the state police.

Cooper said the Illinois State Police are currently completing a crash reconstruction on the accident to determine cause, origin, fault and other details from the accident.

Greg Street of Bunker Hill was the driver of the tanker truck, which was involved in the accident.
