1 Dead After Semis Crash on I-55

The northbound lanes reopened around 1:15 a.m. but southbound lanes remained closed for more than six hours after the crash. Police said both northbound and southbound traffic was shut down for several hours after the crash. As of 3 a.m., one left lane had been opened, but authorities said the right lane could be shut down until 10 a.m. David Conway, 37, of Iowa, was killed in the crash and another driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to Illinois State Police. The accident happened around 8 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the roadway near mile marker 230 in Grundy County and resulted in both trucks bursting into flames.

GRUNDY COUNTY '€“ A Missouri man was killed Monday night after being involved in a crash on Interstate 55 between Gardner and Braidwood. Monday on I-55 near mile marker 230, according to a news release from Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan. After notification of family, Callahan later said the name of the driver killed in the crash was David Lee Conway, 37, of Warrenton, Missouri. The preliminary investigation found two tractor-trailer units were traveling south on I-55 when one unit overturned and remained in the southbound lanes, according to the news release. "The other unit'€™s tractor came apart and the driver was ejected while still seat belted in," Callahan said in the news release.
