Two dead in crash near Willow Springs

Jonathan Grabinski, 17, and 18-year-old Salvatore Melant were in a Ford Explorer traveling east just after 3:30 a.m. in the 9400 block of Archer Avenue in unincorporated Willow Springs, when the vehicle lost control and they crashed into a tree, according to the Cook County sheriff’s and medical examiner’s offices.

Police haven't determined what caused the crash, but the road conditions were icy. Saturday night, friends cried and hugged as they placed flowers and mementos at the spot where the Ford Explorer crashed. Ironically, the vehicle crashed into a cross marking the spot of another fatal accident at that location.
