Montrose man killed in motorcycle crash

Keokuk Police Department was assisted by Keokuk Fire Department, Lee County EMS, Lee County Sheriff'€™s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Lee County Volunteer Emergency Corps, and Lee County Medical Examiner'€™s Office. Keokuk Police Department was called to the scene of a collision between a motorcycle and pickup truck. A passenger on the motorcycle, Tabatha Robertson of Montrose, was transported by ambulance to Keokuk Area Hospital. The operator of the pickup truck, George Gerdes of Keokuk, was cited for failure to yield upon entering a highway. The driver of the motorcycle, Levi Smith of Montrose was pronounced dead at the scene.

Motorcycle crash kills one, critically injures another

A man was killed and his passenger was seriously hurt Monday night when their motorcycle hit a pickup in Keokuk. Lee County EMS Director Bill young said the crash happened around 6 p.m. in the 3900 Block of Main Street. Young said Levi Smith, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman riding with him was critically injured.  The woman was taken to Keokuk Area Hospital before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital.

Aug. 17 crash claims 2nd life

She was airlifted to to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The operator of the 1986 Ford pickup truck involved in the accident was George Gerdes, 79, of Keokuk. He was cited for failure to yield upon entering a highway after he'€™d left a parking lot on the east side of the road and entered Main Street in the motorcycle'€™s path. Funeral arrangements are being handled by King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison.
