Bicyclist killed in crash with tractor-trailer in Westmoreland County

A bicyclist was killed today when he collided with a tractor-trailer in Upper Burrell, Westmoreland County emergency officials said. The incident occurred on Route 780 near the Penn State New Kensington campus around 11:30 a.m. The county coroner was called to the scene. Upper Burrell police also responded. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Neither speed nor cellphone use are believed to have been factors in the crash, according to the coroner's office. Route 780 was closed for about five hours while police reconstructed the crash scene.
