1 dead in motorcycle wreck on Northwest Highway

Peters attempted to dodge the debris, but lost control, a witness told deputies. He crashed into a temporary steel and plastic barrier along the inside shoulder, throwing him from his motorcycle into the center of the freeway.

A motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon on the Northwest Freeway when he lost control of his bike.

At about 3:25 p.m., William Peters was heading east on the inside lane of US 290 near FM 1960 when an unknown piece of debris flew up toward him and another motorcyclist, Monty Wiltrout, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Peters attempted to dodge the debris, but lost control, a witness told deputies. He crashed into a temporary steel and plastic barrier along the inside shoulder, throwing him from his motorcycle into the center of the freeway.

He was transported to North Cypress Medical Center, where he was declared dead shortly after arriving.
