Two killed in hit-and-run wreck after dog got loose on freeway

Police continue searching for the driver of a white Silverado truck who hit and killed two people on Loop 610. Police say his dog in the back seat distracted him. Investigators have not released the victims' names but say one was trying to help the other, whose dog was loose on the highway. On Sunday evening, the driver of a Dodge Durango lost control and hit a guardrail. Another driver stopped to help and was able to wrangle the pit bull. Police took that driver downtown for questioning.

The driver had a dog in his car, which Horton said caused him to crash. The dog jumped out of the car, and the three men attempted to get it back in the SUV, with help from another motorist. The Durango driver, a male in his 40s or 50s, cursed "that damn dog," Horton said, which had caused him to lose control of the car.
