A vehicle in San Francisco’s South of Market district fatally struck a pedestrian early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 2:35 a.m. the CHP received a report of a pedestrian who had been struck near the Fourth Street on-ramp to westbound Interstate Highway 80, the CHP said.

The pedestrian died at the scene and the driver of the vehicle cooperated with the investigation, according to the CHP.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and the name of the deceased pedestrian has not yet been released, the CHP said.

A series of crashes on I-43 in Waukesha County forced the closure of the northbound lanes for part of Sunday morning as the turn toward colder weather makes for slippery roads in southeast Wisconsin.

The crashes around 8:40 a.m. Sunday closed the highway northbound at Moorland Road in New Berlin, the state Department of Transportation said, and the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

The DOT said just after 10 a.m. that the northbound lanes had reopened.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the death of a 58-year-old triathlete who died Monday after being struck head-on by a vehicle while he was riding his bicycle. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Raymond Unland Jr. was riding on Riverland Drive in Tchefuncta Estates south of Covington when he was struck head-on by a Jeep Wrangler, authorities said. The Jeep was being driven by a 16-year-old boy. Citing the age of the driver, the Sheriff's Office did not release his name.

Georgia State Patrol officials say a newlywed bride was killed in a crash hours after her wedding reception in north Georgia.

State patrol officials stated that Kali Dobson was thrown from a car Sunday night in Ball Ground after the car she and her husband were riding in rolled into an embankment.

A neighbor says the groom, later identified as Ryan Quinton, 28, was stumbling up the road with a bloodied, torn shirt after the crash. Thomas says he called 911 and tried comforting the man with a prayer while they waited for emergency responders to arrive.

A 34-year-old Redmond man was struck and killed by a semi-truck on Sunday while crossing U.S. 97 in Redmond, according to the Oregon State Police.

Paul David Donlan walked onto a stretch of the highway just north of Southeast Veterans Way around 9:14 p.m., police said. A southbound semi-truck driven by 37-year-old Jason M. Johnson of Moxee, Wash. swerved but struck the man with one of its trailers, police said.

Two children from North Carolina died in a five-vehicle crash in southwest Alabama.

State troopers said 7-year-old Naziya Gillis and 9-year-old Nadir Gillis of Camp LeJune, N.C., were killed when the Dodge Challenger in which they were riding was struck by a tractor-trailer truck.

The driver of the Dodge, 28-year-old Isom Hodges, and a passenger, 30-year-old Labricia Hodges, both of Camp LeJune, were injured. The driver of another car, 42-year-old William Rousey of Lexington, Ky., was also injured. No other drivers, including the truck driver, were injured.

Oregon State Police continues to investigate a fatal crash Sunday afternoon along Highway 20 east of Bend that killed one man and seriously injured another.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m., when a 1998 Dodge pickup driven by Matthew A. Dreyer, 35, of Star, Idaho, was negotiating a curve along westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 31. The truck traveled off the side of the highway and when Dreyer over-corrected, trying to bring it back under control, the pickup rolled repeatedly, said OSP Lieutenant Gregg Hastings.

Duck hunters rescued a motorist whose car was swept away by high water in southern Indiana today, but the driver’s wife — a passenger in the vehicle — is still unaccounted for, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources.

Kathryn McGill, 31, Des Plaines, Ill., was riding in the vehicle being driven by her husband, Adam McGill, 35, when it was swept off the road in floodwaters on Ind. 257 near the Pike County and Daviess County line.

Aurora police are investigating after a case of illegal street racing sent three to the hospital. The incident happened around midnight Sunday on Smith Road and Ensenada. The three people who were sent to the hospital were not part of the street racing. Police believe there were multiple cars street racing westbound down Smith Road when a BMW struck a Honda that was making a turn. All three in the Honda were sent to the hospital.

One person was killed and six others were injured when the brakes in their van apparently gave out near Gold Run in Placer County, authorities said. Emergency officials got a call from someone inside the Chevy Astro van about 4:40 p.m. and were told that it was traveling west on Interstate 80 and was out of control, according to CHP Officer Chris Nave.
