The driver of the vehicle was not believed to have been injured. Brooks and Edwards were likely attempting to cross Columbus Parkway when they stepped in front of the westbound vehicle and were struck. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor, and the accident investigation remains ongoing by the Opelika Police and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
Two Opelika residents were killed in a Friday night pedestrian accident involving a vehicle and the two pedestrians. Brooks was airlifted from the scene by Lifesaver helicopter but died from multiple blunt force internal injuries in the hospital emergency room. Edwards was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, but died from a severe head injury and multiple blunt force injuries. Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the accident.
A Lexington teenager died today at Huntsville Hospital from injuries sustained in a Friday night traffic accident, authorities said, while three others were injured. The accident remains under investigation by the troopers' Quad-Cities Post.
Nineteen-year-old Trevelyn Campbell was a talented artist who had big dreams. Her Facebook shows some of her artistic flair. Outside her family's home, people who knew and loved Trevelyn came to offer some consolation to her parents.
State Police investigators say that 73-year old Opal Hester Allen, for unknown reasons, drove off of County Road 81 east of Phil Campbell, then hit a ditch. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing her seat belt.
