Woman killed in McCallum crash identified

"It's definitely a tragedy," said APD Cpl. David Boyd. "We're very fortunate that school wasn't in session today and that people weren't out there to witness this."
An 83-year-old woman was killed in a crash after a Veterans Day ceremony at McCallum High School on Tuesday. People were on campus to celebrate a Veterans Day graduation ceremony in which 11 veterans who had never graduated high school received belated diplomas. Police said a vehicle hit Georgia Esquivel in the parking lot just before 2 p.m. as she headed inside to the ceremony to support one of her relatives.  Police have not identified the driver. Several staff members were on campus and saw it happen and attempted to provide assistance. They will be providing counseling services to witnesses and family.
