An accident on Interstate 84 near Boardman killed an 80-year-old man. The accident took place around 7:47 a.m. Monday when a Ford Explorer pulling a travel trailer slowed down for an oversized heavy equipment load that was being transported in the westbound lanes. When the Explorer slowed down it was hit from behind by a 2012 Ford Mustang. The Mustang was disabled and stopped in the right westbound lane. The Mustang driver, Mitchell E. Davis, 27, then got out and helped the 80-year-old passenger get out of the vehicle.

Crashes caused by freezing rain and icy road conditions closed lanes on Interstate 84 west of Pendleton on Monday morning. One of the crashes involved a FedEx trailer that split open at 6 a.m., spilling freight and blocking eastbound traffic, according to Oregon State Police. A commercial truck traveling behind the FedEx trailer also crashed. Neither driver was injured. The left eastbound lane is now open for traffic while workers continue to pick up debris and clear the scene.
