An 18-year-old Ferndale woman died and three other young women were injured when their vehicle swerved off I-90 west of Ellensburg and rolled over Thursday. Sofia Milstead was the driver of the 1999 Subaru Legacy. She died in the crash. Injured were Alexa Smiley, 18, of Lynden; Katherine Webb, 18, of Blaine; and Nichole Deboer, 18 of Sedro-Woolley. Their current conditions have not been reported. The State Patrol said neither drugs nor alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck.
At about 8:02 a.m., 17-year-old Michael Baunsgard was eastbound on I-90 and trying to pass a semi-truck so that he could take Exit 85, but lost control of his vehicle. His car then went off the roadway and down the off-ramp embankment, and he was injured and brought to the hospital. His passenger Hunter Davey, 17, was not hurt.
At about 4:40 p.m., 19-year-old Daniel Espinoza was driving east on I-90, when his left rear-tire blew out and he careened into the median. Espinoza then overcorrected, which caused his car to flip over and land upside-down. He was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Nichole C. Garvin, 20, of Ellensburg, lost control of her car at about 7:35 p.m. 10 miles west of Vantage when her Ford Escort drifted on to the eastbound shoulder. She then overcorrected, struck a rock embankment and rolled 150 feet off of Interstate 90.
