On Highway 75-A at about 4 a.m. north of Beggs, the driver of a pickup truck traveling south was going too fast, lost control on a curve, hit a sign and then a building. Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and a medical helicopter transported the passenger to a Tulsa hospital. A Beggs man died when his car ran off the road while driving in Okmulgee County late Friday.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kode Lane Stuart, 40, was driving a 2004 Dodge pickup northbound on Dentonville Road around 10:30 p.m. when he veered off the left side of the road, overcorrected and left the right side of the road before striking several trees.

Stuart was partially ejected from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive head injuries.

Stuart was not wearing a seat belt, according to the OHP.
