Bend, ORRichard Patterson, 21, was driving his Honda Accord southwest on Powell Butte Highway when he crossed over the centerline and struck a Chevy Suburban head-on. Patterson died from injuries sustained in the crash. 35-year-old Ryan Reed, the driver of the Honda, suffered serious injuries. Two other people were riding in the Suburban: Stephen Harnden, 65, and his son 35-year-old Joseph Harnden. Stephen died at the scene, and Joseph was treated and released at a hospital. Richard Patterson's pit bull died in the crash as well.
