A 38-year-old man driving on a suspended license struck and critically injured a pedestrian with a van Tuesday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. The man was driving a 2000 Dodge van north on Pulaski Road about 8 p.m. when the vehicle hit the pedestrian crossing the street at the intersection with Van Buren Street, police said. The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, was not in the crosswalk at the time of the incident, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Five people, including three paramedics and a newborn, were taken to hospitals after pickup truck and a Fire Department ambulance collided on late Tuesday night. The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. near Lake Shore and Marquette drives. Police said five people were hospitalized. Three paramedics, the pickup driver, and a newborn all suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. The driver of the pickup was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

A Wheaton man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after he struck and killed an elderly woman Thursday morning in the Clearing neighborhood on the Southwest Side. James Rudzinski, 61, is charged with felony aggravated DUI causing a fatal accident in connection with the crash in the 6300 block of North Narragansett Avenue, police News Affairs said in a release.
