At around 2:30 p.m. Monday, a Lexus sedan was westbound on River Road near Laughlin Road and Martinelli Winery when it suddenly crossed the double-yellow line into the oncoming lane and accelerated into the path of an eastbound Ford Ranger. Both drivers shifted toward the shoulder on the south side of the road in an apparent attempt to avoid the collision, at which point the crashed head-on. Both vehicles went airborne upon impact and spun out of control, according to California Highway Patrol. The sedan burst into flames before coming to a rest in a ditch.
