A 16-year-old skateboarder was struck by a vehicle and killed Sunday night in the Hockinson area. The crash, reported about 10:30 p.m., happened in the 14100 block of Northeast 172nd Avenue. The teen was identified as Andreaus T. Matthews, also known as Jackson. Matthews was skateboarding in the roadway when he was struck by a 1995 Nissan Maxima. The Nissan then left the road and hit a tree. Both the driver and passenger were transported to an area hospital for examination. They were identified as driver Landon D. Stewart, 18, of Battle Ground, and passenger Paige J. Bong, 19, of Kalama.

A man was trapped in his pickup after it left the roadway and overturned in a ditch Wednesday morning in Hockinson. The crash was reported at 8:57 a.m. at 17705 N.E. 119th St. Responding firefighters with District 3 had to tear off the door to get the driver out of the truck. The man, whose name was not released, had a shoulder injury but was otherwise OK. A spokesman said the roadways were extremely icy the morning of the accident.

Two people were injured Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle collision in Hockinson. Mark Elston, 56, was driving his 1995 Honda Del Sol west on Northeast 159th Street when the car in front of him slowed to turn left onto Northeast Parkinen Road, near Hockinson High School. Elston realized this too late and swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid rear-ending the car in front of him, according to the Clark County Sheriffs office. Elston’s vehicle collided with an eastbound 2005 Pontiac Vibe driven by Paula Rauch, 60.
