Mattox was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and speeding as he was northbound on John R Road at about 11:00pm, lost control of the vehicle, and left the roadway. The vehicle flipped and crashed into the wall of CJ's Fruit Market, which sent rubble and debris falling onto Mattox's vehicle. He was transported to the hospital before being pronounced dead.
