A borough police officer was taken to the hospital after his patrol car crashed into a pole when he swerved it to avoid a car whose driver apparently ignored his emergency lights and siren and cut him off. The officer, Glenn Tutschek, was responding to the report of a man pointing a handgun during a dispute. The car that allegedly cut him off, a silver sedan, went around cars that had been stopped for the officer’s cruiser about 1:45 p.m. The sedan’s driver used the left-hand-only lane to get around cars and continued west on Passaic Street.
