Ft. Myers-Naples, FLThe Florida Highway Patrol says a drunk driver ran into two construction workers along U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte, killing one.
The crash happened late Wednesday as 22-year-old Mark Andrew Caton and 39-year-old Jemel Gardener were performing road maintenance.
Troopers say 26-year-old Christopher Allen Best didn't see a pickup truck with flashing overhead LED lighting signaling traffic to switch lanes. His Oldsmobile struck the men, pinning them between the car and the pickup truck.

Ft. Myers-Naples, FLA pedestrian was killed Sunday after walking into the path of a minivan traveling on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte, authorities said.
The name of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident unfolded around 8 p.m., at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Conway Boulevard, an FHP press release noted. The minivan, a 2004 Nissan Quest, was traveling south and approaching the intersection, with a steady green traffic light.
