The incident began when two vehicles were involved in a shootout about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Franklin Boulevard and 44th Avenue, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. A short time later, a vehicle crashed into a power pole at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 46th Avenue. The driver of the wrecked vehicle, a man in his 40s, was taken to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound, where he later died.
