An accident in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 at De La Cruz Blvd left one dead early Tuesday morning. Witness accounts to California Highway Patrol indicate that a white pickup truck struck a while sedan that was stalled near the center median after midnight. The collision forced the sedan across all lanes of traffic and into a wall, and the sedan burst into flames, trapping the driver. The driver could not be rescued and was killed. The pickup driver was not injured in the crash and was cooperating with police.

Three individuals have died after a Sunday morning wreck in San Jose. The accident occured at approximately 2 a.m. on Highway 101 southbound close to the exit to Interstate 280. Police say the car was traveling south near the Interstate 280 off-ramp when it struck an embankment between the freeway and the off-ramp, hit two trees, spun around, and finally burst into flames. This resulted in the trees surrounding the roadway catching fire. Investigators continue to determine the cause of the accident. Police closed one lane of Highway 101 southbound while the investigation was conducted.
