A man was killed and a woman hospitalized after the vehicle they were in struck a guardrail on Interstate 55 in south St. Louis late Tuesday night.

According to authorities, a vehicle was traveling on westbound Interstate 44 around 11 p.m. when it struck a median while trying to cross onto I-55.

The vehicle spun out of control and went over the median, facing north in the southbound lanes. It then slid into the right side curb of southbound I-55, hitting a guard rail on the driver side.

Accident reconstruction crews responded to a serious motorcycle wreck that critically injured a man late Wednesday night in south St. Louis.

The accident happened on southbound Interstate 55 near Gasconade Street . around 10 p.m. According to police, a 46-year-old man lost control of his motorcycle, hit the back of a tractor trailer, flew off of his bike and slid down the highway.

All southbound lanes of I-55 at Gasconade Street were shutdown while crews worked to clear the scene. Officials reopened the lanes around 2 a.m.

Traffic was backed up for miles after a multi-vehicle crash caused a section of Interstate 55 to close in south St. Louis Monday morning.

The three-vehicle wreck happened on I-55 near Loughborough around 6:45 a.m.

Fire officials stated that one person ejected from their vehicle was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Two others suffered minor injuries, according to officials.

Traffic at one point was backed up to Interstate 270/255. All northbound lanes were back open by about 8:40 a.m.

The cause of the wreck was not immediately clear.

Police have identified a man who died in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 55 in south St. Louis County Monday afternoon.

According to Missouri State troopers, 68-year-old Ronald Aboussie was driving on the southbound I-55 ramp onto I-255 when he lost control and drove down an embankment.

Authorities responded and pronounced Aboussie dead at the scene.

The cause of the wreck was unknown.
