Joseph Schaad, the 35-year-old father of the boy, was driving on Highway 29 when he struck the back end of a pickup truck. The 22-moth-old boy that was in the rear seat suffered head injuries and blunt force trauma, and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. He succumbed to his injuries a week later. Schaad is believed to have been speeding when the accident occured.
