Authorities said the man whose truck was hit by a train Thursday night is facing a DUI charge. The light rail Sprinter was carrying 37 passengers when it struck an empty truck near Vista. The driver of the truck said it stalled on the tracks and he apparently tried to warn the oncoming Sprinter train by waving it down. However, the train struck and heavily damaged the truck. None of the people on the train or the vehicle driver were hurt.
Authorities are investigating a fatal crash in Vista Friday morning that left a car crushed underneath a semi-truck.
The collision was reported about 5:50 a.m. on Park Center Drive near Business Park Drive, sheriff’s officials said.
A driver in a four-door sedan slammed into the back of the tractor-trailer leaving the car wedged underneath it. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Further information about the victim and the circumstances of the accident have not been released.
A 19-year-old man was killed early Tuesday in a fiery, high speed crash off a street near Shadowridge Plaza shopping center.
The northbound Chevrolet Camaro careened off the roadway in the 1300 block of Sycamore Avenue in Vista about 1:30 a.m., a sheriff's Sgt. said. The vehicle rolled over, then hit an electrical box and light pole and burst into flames.
Firefighters discovered the body of the driver while extinguishing the blaze, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
The Vista resident's name was withheld pending family notification.
