Portland, ORJohn E. Pratt, 58, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata south on the freeway when the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway just before 5:30 p.m. The car went several hundred feet on the grassy median before returning to the highway, crossing all three southbound lanes, then going off the right side of the road and striking a tree. Pratt was sent to St. John Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Portland, ORAccording to a probable cause affidavit, Roger R. Haines, 48, was impaired by drugs when the 1999 Mercury Mountaineer he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer near Milepost 20 on southbound Interstate 5, south of Woodland. His wife, Teresa Haines, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. The couple have two sons. He appeared Tuesday in a wheelchair in front of Judge Scott Collier. His left foot was amputated about a month after the crash, due to a bone infection, he said.
