State Trooper Frederick Schimp was driving a Pennsylvania State Police Ford Explorer patrol unit at 3:30 a.m. Saturday when he failed to stop at a stop sign in Erie County, Pa. The resulting accident killed the woman whose car ran into the trooper's vehicle as it rolled through the stop sign. But a state police spokesman said the trooper and a partner in the state police unit weren't responding to a call at the time of the crash. All this, according to the Erie Times-News.
