Gainesville, FLA Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on US-301 when the driver lost control and moved into the path of a tractor-trailer, driven by Arthur Martinez, 49, of Williston. The driver of the Jetta, identified as a 21-year-old man, sustained critical injuries. There were two passengers in the Jetta. Gilbert Madrigal, 23, of Jacksonville, sustained serious injuries and Soyla Ortiz-Cabrera, 21, of Tampa, died. Martinez was not injured in the collision.

Ft. Myers-Naples, FL24-year-old man died in a wrong-way crash on US-301 Monday night.
Joshua Odom of Fort Myers was driving northbound in the southbound lanes just north of NE 185th Street around 11:25 p.m. in a silver Nissan Altima, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Trooper D. Komorek reported, Jerry Foust Sr., 60, was traveling southbound on US-301 in a Freightliner CasCadia. Foust noticed that Odom was driving in the wrong direction and tried to avoid from colliding into him by swerving but Odom's car ended up hitting one of Foust's axles.
