A section of southbound US-131 was shut down for several hours Wednesday due to a jackknifed semi-truck and complications with clearing the scene of the wreck. The wreck occurred south of 100th Street in southern Kent County, and as a result, along with low visibility and other weather conditions, officials closed down the highway all the way to 142nd Avenue in Allegan County, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. An MDOT spokesperson said there were near whiteout conditions on the highway when the semi-truck wrecked.

One westbound lane of I-96 is shut down east of the Plainfield Avenue exit in Grand Rapids due to a wreck. The accident involves a semi-truck that slid off the road. There were several other slide-offs in the area. Westbound traffic is backed up, as the last exit ramp off westbound I-96 is at the East Beltline, which is several miles away.
