A man died in a one-car crash at the end of a highway exit ramp Friday, police said.
Walter Ruiz, 36, of New Haven was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the bottom of the exit for I-91 north at State and James streets. State Street also is known at Route 5.
The three others in the car were transported to area hospitals to be treated for injuries police said are not considered life-threatening.
Several people are injured following a serious two-car crash in Waterbury early Sunday morning.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when two cars collided near the intersection of Cherry Street and North Elm Street in Waterbury.
As many as six people were inside the cars, many of which are listed in critical condition, according to police. Some were taken to Saint Mary's Hospital, others to Waterbury Hospital.
The victims have not been identified.
Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 8 in Waterbury on Friday evening.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. near exits 35 and 36 on the northbound side, according to state police. The highway was shut down while authorities worked to clear the scene.
A 23-year-old New Haven man was killed in a crash on Route 69/Litchfield Turnpike in Woodbridge early this morning.
Police identified the driver as Michael Cobb, 23, of Ella Grasso Boulevard in New Haven.
They said his 2001 Buick Century was traveling south on Route 69 when Cobb lost control near Bond Road just after 4 a.m., went off the road and hit a tree.
The vehicle was extensively damaged and Cobb was pronounced dead at the scene.
Route 63 has reopened in Bethany after a car crashed into a telephone pole.
The road was closed at the intersection with Route 42, according to state police.
The accident was minor, but the crash took wires down, police said.
A 36-year-old man died in a crash on State Street in Hamden Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at 2260 State Street, near Ridge Road, around 8:45 a.m. The crash closed State Street for more than an hour.
According to police, Joseph Manacchio, of Hamden, was killed when his vehicle crossed the center line and hit another vehicle driving in the opposite direction on State Street.
