It was about 8:00am when Ossenkop was driving a pickup truck east on Nebraska 62, but failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Nebraska 67, and was struck on the driver's side by a southbound pickup driven by Charles O'Grady, 55. Both Ossenkop and O'Grady were taken to the hospital, and O'Grady was released but Ossenkop eventually died. Investigators believed that Ossenkop may have been temporarily blinded by sunlight, causing him to miss the stop sign.
