San Jose police on Sunday were investigating a hit-and-run collision near an apartment complex that left a pedestrian dead. The incident happened around 3 p.m. near The Woods Drive and Snell Avenue in south San Jose. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man lying on the ground, bleeding. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner's office has not yet released the victim's name.

One person was killed in a DUI crash near Martial Cottle Park in San Jose early Sunday morning, a police sergeant said. Officers responded to a report of a solo vehicle crash on Branham Lane near Snell Avenue at about 3:35 a.m., a San Jose police Sgt. said. Three people were inside the vehicle and all three were taken to local hospitals following the crash, police said. One of the passengers died at the hospital. The name of the victim was not released pending notification of next of kin.

A man trying to cross Highway 101 on foot was struck by a car and killed late Friday night in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim, Christopher Codee Tarsky, 20, of Santa Cruz, was in the southbound lane south of North First Street, walking from the median toward the right shoulder. As cars swerved to avoid him, he began running. He ran into the path of a Honda Accord, landing in a right lane. As the Honda pulled to the shoulder, a sport-utility vehicle struck the man and did not stop. A second SUV also hit Tarsky, left the freeway but returned.

A big-rig that took out traffic signals on Stevens Creek Boulevard in San Jose Tuesday morning has prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a Sig-alert for the affected area. The incident involved a wide-load big rig hauling a portable building and was reported at 6:32 a.m. on Stevens Creek Boulevard at North Monroe Street, CHP Officer Eric Anderson said. As of 6:50 a.m., westbound Stevens Creek Boulevard from southbound Interstate Highway 880 was closed to due power lines down in the roadway, according to Anderson.
