The plane crashed after it attempted to take off from a grass runway behind a home at 9351 Highway M, which is about one mile south of Highway AE. Witnesses said the plane, which was headed to Utah, went into a steep climb and stalled before crashing to the ground. The victims were identified as Charles and Amy Openshaw, both 43 years, and their children, Tanner, 15, and Ellie, 12.  The lone survivor a child, was taken by Air Evac to a Springfield hospital.
