A 22-year-old man was killed when a car plunged into a canal off the Hudson River in Jersey City early Wednesday, police say. Marc Puich was pulled out of the Morris Canal about two hours after he drove off a parking lot on Liberty View Drive, crashed through a steel barrier and then dropped into the waterway. He was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water at around 3:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A central New Jersey borough councilman has died in a car accident a day before he was to be sworn in to his second term in office. Authorities stated that 53-year-old Keyport resident Clemente Toglia’s car crossed into an oncoming traffic lane on Tuesday and collided with another vehicle in nearby Tinton Falls. It’s unknown what caused the crash, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken wrist.

A young boy was killed and a man was injured when their car struck a tree on a southern New Jersey roadway. But it’s still not clear what caused the crash, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday in Mullica Township. Police in the Atlantic County community say 10-year-old township resident Jaiden Ohnemuller-Muskett was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He had been sitting in the car’s rear passenger seat.

8 people suffered mostly minor injuries when a bus crashed on Route 3 in Clifton, New Jersey.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 3 between Passiac Avenue and Main Avenue, with the bus ending up stuck on top of the concrete divider.

Police say eight people suffered minor injuries in the accident. They were taken to two area hospitals.

A crane had to be brought in to lift the bus off the divider.

Police say a car may have cut off the bus while trying to exit.

Ten people were injured after a taxi driver hit a bus and both vehicles ended up in a row of businesses in Newark early Thursday.

The crash happened on Market Street around 12:30 a.m., with the No. 21 bus traveling east toward Newark-Penn Station.

Police are on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed an elderly man Monday evening in South Toms River, New Jersey. William Gaughan, 84, of South Toms River had just purchased lottery tickets shortly before 6 p.m. and was walking home on Dover Road at the intersection of Chamberlain Street. Suddenly, police say, he was struck by a small black or dark-colored vehicle traveling eastbound. Police say the striking vehicle did not stop at the scene and instead continued east on Dover Road, possibly entering the Garden State Parkway northbound.

Snowy conditions on the road may have caused a deadly accident on the jersey turnpike Sunday morning.

Police say a limo driver stepped out of his vehicle and was struck and killed by another car near exit 14 in Newark at around 5 a.m.

Details remain unclear, but at least three vehicles were involved in the crash and two other people were injured.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. No word yet on any suspected criminality.

Officials are investigating a train accident that killed a man and injured a woman in Trenton.

Officials say an NJ Transit train was traveling northbound on the River Line shortly before 6 p.m. when it struck a car that somehow got stuck on the tracks at Lalor Street and Route 129.

The driver of the car, an adult male, was killed in the crash while a female passenger was injured and taken to the hospital. Officials have not yet revealed her condition.

Officials say 28 passengers were on the train at the time of the accident. None of them were injured however.

Two people are hurt after a driver loses control of a school bus. The driver lost control of the bus while taking students home from St. Joseph's High School Thursday. The bus struck a parked vehicle before crashing into a tree on the 2000 block of Union Road in Vineland, N.J., according to police. Officials say a 16-year-old student and the driver were injured. Both were taken to Inspira Medical Center Vineland. Two other students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Neither suffered any injuries.

A driver was killed after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer on Route 280 in New Jersey Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.

The tractor-trailer was going in the westbound lane of Route 280 in Parsippany when it apparently lost some of its carriage. The driver attempted to pull over when a car traveling behind the truck in the same lane crashed into the trailer.

The driver of the car was killed, authorities say. Police were on the scene investigating, and traffic was backed up over 10 miles during the evening rush.
