For the third day in a row, a Western New York resident has died as a result of a motorcycle accident.

State Police say 52-year-old Roy Beverlin, Jr. failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway on Bolton Road in the Town of Ashford and crashed, striking a fence and trees. A passing motorist found him unresponsive and called 911.

Beverlin was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was injured in a fiery crash of a tractor-trailer truck and a van on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge that snarled traffic on the Staten Island Expressway during the height of rush hour on Tuesday morning.

The 23-year-old driver of the van was taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze with non-life threatening injuries, said MTA spokeswoman Judie Glave.

The upper level of the span was closed for about two hours as a result of the incident, Ms. Glave said.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a one-car crash that killed an 83-year-old man in Melville last night.

Rafael Ortiz, 57, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry west on the Long Island Expressway when the vehicle veered off the roadway, striking a pole, east of Exit 50 in Melville at approximately 7:25 p.m.

Two men were injured in a motorcycle accident in Queens on Tuesday night cops said. In Astoria, two men in their 20s on the same bike were hit by a 2003 Infiniti near the intersection of 28th Ave. and 34th St. at 7:15 p.m., cops said. The victims were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical and serious condition but were expected to survive their injuries, cops said. The driver of the car stayed on the scene and was arrested for not having a Breathalyzer device attached in the vehicle as required after a previous arrest, cops said.
