The North Carolina Highway Patrol says eight students were on a bus headed to Nashville Elementary School when it overturned around 7:30 Wednesday morning. It happened on Boddie Mill Pond Road a mile west of NC-58 in Nash County. Troopers said the bus driver reported he had problems with the vehicle's steering system and he could not keep it under control. The bus went down an embankment and overturned in a ravine.

An emotional gathering took place outside Memorial Hermann Hospital where little league baseball players trekked Friday to support one of their own. Gabe Rojas is being treated for a badly broken leg. The 11-year-old and his best friend Jartis Soloman were both sent to the hospital after they were hit by a car on Wednesday. “His spirits are high right now,” said David Rojas, Gabe’s father. “He’s a very strong kid. He’s fighting.” The accident happened at the Rojas’ home while the two boys were playing basketball in the driveway.

A girl in a stroller was critically injured after being hit by a car in the parking lot of a hospital early Wednesday morning. Her mother was also injured, and the driver was charged with DWI. Melissa Flynn and her daughter Aubrey were injured around 2:45 a.m. at the Alamance Regional Medical Center emergency room off Huffman Mill Road. Both were rushed to the nearby emergency room, which was their intended destination before the collision, Burlington police said.
