At around 12:20pm, the rear tire of an SUV with several passengers malfunctioned, which caused the driver to lose control, strike the center guardrail, and flip upside-down into the opposing lanes. Of the people in the SUV, three died from the crash, including 2 women and 1 man, and three were injured. The 35-year-old woman and 21-year-old man that were injured were hospitalized with potentially serious injuries, and the 2-year-old girl that was injured was hospitalized with less serious injuries. Freeway traffic was snarled in the Inland Corridor Wednesday when an SUV involved in a four-vehicle crash came to rest on its top in the middle of Interstate 15, authorities said.
The crash on northbound I-15 just north of Bernardo Center Drive was reported at 7:34 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Three lanes of traffic were blocked due to the collision, Caltrans reported.
Paramedics took two patients from the crash scene to a hospital, a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher said, adding both were taken to Palomar Medical Center West in Escondido.
One person was seriously injured in a crash on east state Route 94 at Interstate 15 in southeastern San Diego, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash was reported about 1:15 p.m. near the Mount Hope area, a CHP Officer said.
Witnesses reported a white Ford Expedition had overturned and a person was ejected.
The victim was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
