The Griffith family was returning to Cape Coral on I-75 after a vacation in Tennessee when their car was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Caitlin Grace. The impact caused Grace's vehicle to flip, and the Griffith vehicle to be pushed onto the shoulder of the road. 5-year-old Nathan Griffith was fatally injured. The driver Alexander Griffith and passenger Sheila Griffith suffered serious injuries, and 7-year-old Marissa Griffith suffered minor injuries. Caitlin Grace was also hospitalized in serious condition.
Two drivers died when a 91-year-old man driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 near the Florida-Georgia border late Friday night stuck an SUV and a Greyhound bus. Troopers said a 91-year-old driver was diving south in the northbound lanes when they ran head-on into the bus and a Ford Expedition at mile marker 449, about 10 miles south of Jasper in Hamilton County. The car's driver, Ernest Lee Holmes, 91, from High Springs, Florida was killed in the accident, according to the FHP report. Peter Linek, 55, of Ormond Beach, who was driving the SUV also died.
