Rafael Ortiz, 57, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry west on the Long Island Expressway when the vehicle veered off the roadway, striking a pole, east of Exit 50 in Melville at approximately 7:25 p.m.

New York, NYTwo people were killed in a one-car accident on the Long Island Expressway in Queens early Tuesday.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m. between the Utopia Parkway and the 164th Street exits in Fresh Meadows.
Police say the driver was heading west in an Audi sedan when he lost control and hit a tree, killing himself and a passenger.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are investigating the cause, but one eyewitness says the driver was speeding.
The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending family notification.

New York, NYOne man was killed in a crash on the westbound Long Island Expressway in Queens Thursday morning, one of many accidents that delayed traffic for the morning commute.
Multiple vehicles collided in the inbound lanes near exit 31, at the Nassau County Boarder, just after a light band of snow moved through the region around 5 a.m.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
All westbound traffic was funneled into a single HOV lane as authorities investigated, causing miles of delays into Nassau County for hours.
