Police officers attempted to stop Grant Oliver McClure for traffic charges on Shawnee Mission Parkway, but instead of pulling over he pulled into a local business' parking lot then quickly exited back onto the street, hitting another vehicle. He then accelerated to a very high speed and attempted to flee police on Norwood Street. The chase ended when he struck two parked cars and two trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one was hurt in the earlier accident.

A southeast Kansas teenager was killed after crashing a vehicle during a police chase. Four other teen passengers were injured when they were ejected from the car in the rollover crash that occurred just after 8 a.m. Monday near the town of Columbus while officers were chasing a car driven by 17-year-old Noah Kirsch, of Pittsburg. The driver lost control and the car went off the road and rolled over several times. His injured passengers were identified as two boys and two girls, all 15 and 16 years old and from Pittsburg. They were taken to hospitals in Pittsburg and Joplin, Missouri.
