A Good Samaritan who stopped to help at an accident scene on Friday died after stepping over a bridge railing and falling into a river below. Mark A. Ferguson, 27, of Omaha, Nebraska, most likely believed there was solid ground on the other side when he stepped over the railing and fell into the Stones River. Ferguson was able to swim to the bank of the river, but he was pronounced dead after being taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A southbound CSX train was just leaving the rail yard when the engineer and the conductor noticed a man lying in the middle of the tracks. The man was identified as Dallas Wayne Turner, and his face, hands, and nostrils were coated with gold spray paint. The train attempted to emergency brake, but Turner was struck nonetheless. He suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

 Brady Myers, 20, killed in car accident on State Highway 39 in McMinn County, TN when he left the road traveled through the ditch, rolled, and was ejected from the vehicle.  He was not wearing a seatbelt.  The Tennessee Highway Patrol tells Channel 3, a McMinn County man died from a fatal crash on Sunday.

Family killed in car accident about 30 minutes east of Nashville on I-40 in Wilson County. Michael and Monica Cruce and their two teenage boys, Joshua and Caleb, died in the accident. Two vehicles were stopped in the middle lane, when four other vehicles collided with the stopped cars. Chase Fakes, of Lebanon, was charged with driving under the influence and implied consent.

Former Titans kicker Rob Bironas was killed in an overnight car crash in Nashville. Bironas was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the 800 block of Battery Lane around 11 p.m. Saturday.  Bironas was transported Vanderbilt Medical Center, and pronounced dead on arrival.

An allegedly impaired and half-naked woman was arrested Monday after the SUV she was driving slammed into a car at a West Knoxville intersection, leaving a mother and her toddler son seriously injured. Bystanders stopped the alleged drunken driver from fleeing the crash scene.“If I had to sit on her until the police came, that was gonna happen,” said Julie Lapolla. “And she had no bottoms on, she had no underwear on ... she asked me for my pants.”

A child has died and his mother was hurt in a hit-and-run collision allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon. The crash was reported about 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 66, near Sam Ridley Parkway. The child, his mother and his sister were outside their car changing a flat tire when they were struck. The suspected driver, identified as 33-year-old Tina L. Wilson, kept driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier after the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Eleven people in a sport utility vehicle were critically injured in a crash that occurred at Berta Road and Shelby Drive on Tuesday night. At least two of the adults were taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis in critical condition. Eight children were taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital where they were being treated and assessed, according to Le Bonheur spokeswoman Sara Burnett.
