Police stated a Honda Accord driven by 31-year-old John Groves was driving north on 11th Avenue near A1A at a high rate of speed about 12:30 a.m. when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Volkswagen Golf, driven by 27-year-old Bloneva Palmer. Palmer was killed instantly. According to police, firefighters had to cut Groves out of the Honda. He was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died a short time later. According to the police report, no other people were involved in the accident.
