Two teenaged girls, ages 14 and 15, were walking across Eight Mile Road in a crosswalk at about 6:30 p.m., when they were struck hard by an eastbound van and knocked out of their shoes. The 14-year-old girl who had been eating ice cream was choking on a spoon, and the 15-year-old was unconscious. Both were taken to the hospital, where the 14-year-old died and the 15-year-old remains in critical condition. It is still unclear if the driver was speeding or who exactly had the right of way.
