A two-vehicle crash at 4965 Gender Road occurred around 4:42 a.m. Sunday. Michael Bates, 27, was heading south on Gender Road with Shirley Walton, 40, as a passenger in a Ford Taurus. Patricia Haynes, 37, was traveling north in a Scion xB. Haynes crossed the centerline and crashed into the Ford. Bates was pronounced deceased at the crash site.  Walton and Haynes were taken to local hospitals. A third person was taken from the accident site to a nearby hospital. Investigators are unsure why Haynes left her lane of travel.
