Madison County sheriff's Deputy Jimmy Justice is in recovery after being struck by a Toyota Corolla's side mirror that passed him on Georgia Highway 106. Justice was treated  at nearby hospital in Athens for an injury to his side. Justice along with other deputies responded to call that a vehicle had hit a cow when the incident occured. According to Chief Deputy Shawn Burns, patrol cars at the scence had lights on and wore reflective vests, yet Justice was still hit by the 72 year old driver driving a Toyota Corolla.
