Floyd County police say the car driven by 20-year-old Joseph Fischer of New Albany went off the highway Tuesday night. Fischer walked away from that crash and for unknown reasons went into the travel lanes of I-64 where he was fatally struck by a car. That driver stopped immediately after the collision, and police say no charges are expected to be filed against the motorist.

A car traveling west on I-64 near mile marker 106 struck a sport utility vehicle traveling east, and the driver of the car and a passenger in the SUV were killed. The 2-year-old girl was identified as Merissa Summers. The coroner said he wasn't releasing the name of the sailor, who is based in Virginia, because his family had not been notified.
