Two people were killed Wednesday morning, and several more were injured, in crashes involving a total of 44 vehicles on snowy Interstate 81 in West Virginia.

Police have now confirmed that there are two fatalities.

The interstate was experiencing white-out conditions from a fast-moving snow squall at the time of two separate, serious crashes, WHAG reported.

Police stated that 14 people were taken to area hospitals after the crashes. Of seven patients taken to Berkeley Medical Center, three are in critical condition and four have been stabilized in the ER.
