Portland, ORShortly before 3 p.m. Joseph Atterbury was headed eastbound on Oregon 34 when he lost control for undetermined reasons. He crossed into westbound traffic and collided head-on with Mary A. Welch. Both of the drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Atterbury's 15-month-old child was in the back seat at the time and was rushed to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis where he is expected to survive.

Eugene, ORAn Oregon State Police trooper was injured Friday night when his patrol car was rear-ended as he was wrapping up a traffic stop on Oregon 34 east of Corvallis.
Just after 8 p.m., Trooper Don Rummer was finishing a traffic stop and got back into his patrol car when he saw a car coming from behind lose control on the snow- and ice-covered roadway. The car crashed into the back of the stopped patrol car.
